Senior Platform Engineer

About the Role

Our client is a well-established financial services organisation with a growing engineering presence in Ireland, looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join their expanding Platform & Infrastructure team.

This is a platform engineering role — not DevOps. Application teams own their own pipelines; you'll own the paved roads they run on. That means a multi-tenant Kubernetes platform, internal developer platform (IDP), cloud networking, identity, and policy-as-code.

You'll take major platform initiatives from brief through to production, establish technical standards, mentor engineers at earlier stages of their careers, and work closely with architecture and security on decisions that cut across the organisation.

What You’ll Do

• Multi-tenant AKS platform — Own the design and evolution of an AKS platform — tenancy model, upgrade strategy, operator ecosystem, and service mesh.
• Internal developer platform — Build and maintain the shared services that sit at the heart of our engineering organisation’s internal platform catalog.
• IaC governance — Architect Terraform module hierarchies and set the standard for how the team approaches infrastructure as code — at the design level, not just the implementation level.
• Zero-trust & policy-as-code — Contribute to cloud identity, zero-trust networking architecture, and policy enforcement using tools like Kyverno or OPA.
• Mentorship & technical leadership — Grow junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pairing, and architectural guidance. Write documentation that becomes a lasting reference.
• Incident response — Lead response for platform-level incidents and share on-call responsibility with the wider team.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Substantial production experience on a major public cloud — Azure is preferred, though strong AWS or GCP backgrounds will be considered
• Proven track record designing and operating multi-tenant Kubernetes platforms at scale
• Terraform is your primary tool and you think in module hierarchies, not just individual resources
• Python fluency for platform tooling — you treat platform code as software
• Deep cloud networking knowledge: hub-and-spoke, VNet peering, Private Link, egress controls
• GitOps mindset with hands-on production experience using ArgoCD or an equivalent
• Experience with policy tooling such as Kyverno, OPA, or similar
• Comfortable working within regulated environments (PCI-DSS, ISO 27001)
• Strong written communication skills — you write architectural documents that others actually use

Beneficial

• CKA or CKS certification
• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
• Secrets management experience with HashiCorp Vault or cloud-native KMS
• Familiarity with eBPF-based networking (Cilium)
• Background in financial services or another regulated industry

Package & Location

Salary: Up to €110,000 depending on experience

Working pattern: Hybrid — primarily remote with occasional travel to the Kerry office
